What is Copyright?

WIPO Treaty Implementation
The first section restricts the utilization of tools and devices to illegally bypass copyright measures. Several researchers were conducted to test the copyright protection devices.It also prohibits the production, trade, selling of products for the purpose of gaining unauthorized access to copyrighted material. Lastly, it restricts the altercation, falsification, and removal of copyright information on a protected material.
Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation
The second title encompasses certain legal guidelines that Online Service Providers (OSPs) must comply with when a user violates copyright laws. It limits OPSs’ copyright infringement liability to a mere transmission of information as a host, as long as there is no knowledge or financial gain present. Guidelines for the removal of copyrighted material upon the knowledge of OSPs are also established. The liability against institutions when students, faculty members or graduate school members use educational facilities to electronically publish material are limited.
Computer Maintenance or Repair Exemption
The third title allows the owner or lessee to authorize the making of a copy of a computer program as long as its main purpose is repair or maintenance.
Miscellaneous Provisions
The fourth section contains comprehensive amendments addressing the functions of the Copyright Office, making of digital copies, sound recordings, and distance education.
Protection of Certain Original Designs
The fifth title is also known as the Vessel Hull Design Protection Act. This act solely focuses on the copyright protection of new boat hull designs for 10 years after being initially introduced.
